Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2015
Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 69/270, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) convened the second session of the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD 2015) for soliciting Asia-Pacific regional input to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2015. The theme of this year’s session is “Strengthening integration, implementation and review for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific.”
As an inclusive regional intergovernmental forum, APFSD 2015 had the objective of strengthening the institutional framework for sustainable development at the regional level. The Forum engaged member States, United Nations and other institutions, major groups and other stakeholders in dialogue on three key issues: (a) practical approaches for integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development; (b) the potential for a regional monitoring and accountability framework; and (c) the form and function of the Forum beyond 2015.
APFSD 2015, took place on 21 and 22 May 2015 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand and was held back-to-back with the following other high-profile regional events:
- The seventy-first session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, from 25 to 29 May
- The preparatory meeting for the first Forum of Ministers and Environmental Authorities of Asia and the Pacific (18 May), and the first Forum of Ministers and Environmental Authorities of Asia and the Pacific (19 and 20 May), respectively, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme
- The Asia-Pacific Roundtable on Environmental Rule of Law for Sustainable Development in Support of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, held on 20 May.
These events were preceded by the Asia-Pacific Civil Society Forum on Sustainable Development to be held from 16 to 18 May 2015. This forum served as a preparatory event for both the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2015 and the Forum of Ministers and Environmental Authorities of Asia and the Pacific. The Regional Conference on Aligning Corporate Sustainability with SDGs was also convened on 20 May 2015 to facilitate the development of private sector perspectives as a contribution to APFSD 2015.
