Some 233 million people in the Asia-Pacific region remain trapped in extreme poverty at $1.90 a day, with about 1 billion people living in moderate poverty ($3.20 a day). The Covid-19 pandemic also threatens to push an additional 93 million people back under the $3.20 a day international poverty line. Disparities in access to basic opportunities are also persisting, or even widening as a result of the pandemic. ESCAP is contributing evidence-based policy analysis to assist policymakers in reducing poverty and inequality, so as to leave no one behind by 2030.
